Indoor Track and Field Competes at Liberty Kickoff

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Wofford College men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed in the 15th annual Liberty Kickoff on Friday and Saturday at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex. Four school records were broken or tied during the meet.
 
On Friday, Megan Dunn took first place in the pentathlon with 3,529 points, which included a fist place in the 800 meters. Netanya Linares was fourth and Shakaiya Bradford was fifth in the event. Bradford was first in the shot put at 12.55 meters to set a new school record. The women's 4x800 relay team of Madison Paraskeva, Kassidy Morton, Sommer McKenzie and Anna Lyles was third overall in 9:28.33 to set a new school record. The men's 4x800 team of Ford McCoy, Theron Bradford, Bradford Smith and Jack Zemp also set a new school record and were third overall.
 
For the women on Saturday, Georgia McDevitt was the top qualifier in the preliminaries of the 60 meters at 7.68. McDevitt was also fourth overall in the long jump at 5.66 meters. Kassidy Morton was sixth overall in the 400 meters at 57.99 and Madison Paraskeva took third place in the 800 meters at 2:20.46. Sommer McKenzie was second in the mile with a time of 5:09.90, while Paraskeva was third at 5:11.39. Taryn Schoen was tenth in the 3,000 meters at 10:38.59. In the 60-meter hurdles, Kerrington Johnson was second in the preliminaries at 9.0. The 4x400 relay team was fifth overall.
 
On Saturday for the men, Jaylen Muhammad was 11th in the 60-meter preliminaries at 7.04. Bradford Smith added an 11th place in the 400 meters at 49.91 and Jonathan Hall was 11th in the 500 meters at 1:09.42. Jack Zemp was eighth in the mile with a time of 4:19.84. Josh Hendry was 13th in the 3,000 meters at 9:06.79. In the 60-meter hurdles, Isaiah Ellis had an 8.28 to finish third in the preliminaries and tied his school record with an 8.17 in the semifinals. The 4x400 relay team was 11th overall. Tanner Henry went 2.00 meters in the high jump to place sixth.
 
The meet featured approximately 1,200 athletes from 35 colleges and universities. The schools and universities competing hailed from nine different states and the District of Columbia. NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA, NCCAA and NJCAA institutions all took part in the meet.
           
Up next, the teams will be in action on January 31 and February 1 at the Carolina Challenge hosted by the University of South Carolina. The Camel City Invitational and the VMI Indoor Classic will be followed by the Southern Conference Championship.
