Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Wofford Sweeps ETSU for the First Time with Huge Win

Spartanburg, SC – Wofford's women's basketball team made history once again Thursday night after they swept ETSU for the first time ever with an 86-62 win. The Terriers now sit atop of the SoCon with a 7-3 record, while the Buccaneers fall to 3-7 sitting in seventh place.

The game started out with both teams scoring two buckets apiece until Wofford went on a 10-2 run. Da'Ja Green received a pass from Lilly Hatton and drained a three and on the following possession, Green fed Chloe Wanink who made a three of her own. The next two possessions would be easy layups as Jamari McDavid and Lilly Hatton combined for four more. Later in the quarter, Chloe Wanink and Lawren Cook each made a jumper from the paint which increased Wofford's lead. Wanink would then end the quarter with a layup to give the Terriers a 25-18 lead.

The 2nd quarter was a hot start for Wofford as they made three consecutive shots. Cairo Booker found Lilly Hatton for a deep two, Da'Ja Green collected a rebound and ran the length of the court and nailed a jumper, and Booker had her own basket as she made a floater from the paint. Booker added a triple two minutes later after she was seen by Alexis Tomlin. Niyah Lutz entered the game late in the quarter and made an immediate impact by drawing a foul and hitting both free-throws. Lutz then grabbed an offensive rebound and made the put back. Lawren Cook ended the half with a pair of free-throws as Wofford led 46-34.

The Terriers came out of halftime with the same energy that matched the first half. Jamari McDavid began to heat up again as she made two straight layups followed by two free-throws by Da'Ja Green. Lilly Hatton joined the party as she knocked down her free-throws as well. The Green, McDavid, and Hatton show continued as they created the next 10 points for Wofford and broke the game wide open 68-50.

The team showed no signs of slowing down in the 4th quarter as Cairo Booker came straight out with a steal-and-score. Da'Ja Green added three more as she swished a trey from the top of the key. Booker matched a 3-pointer moments later, and Lawren Cook made another layup to push the lead to 19. Green wasn't done yet as she made two more threes to put the game to bed, as Wofford went on to win 86-62.

Da'Ja Green led the game with 24 points, shooting 50% (8-16). Jamari McDavid, Lilly Hatton, and Cairo Booker all found themselves in double digits as well. McDavid had a game-high nine rebounds, while Niyah Lutz grabbed seven. The Terriers were near perfect from the charity stripe going 17-18 (94%).

"Really proud of our effort tonight, I think our defense did a great job adjusting to some of their motions and keeping them off the offensive glass. We took care of the ball and another great job of sharing the ball and making buckets", said coach Jimmy Garrity. "We took really good shots and got to the free-throw line plenty of times, and our players made great basketball plays. The rest of these games for us are all 1st place games and we are going to do whatever it takes to win every game from here on out."

Wofford concludes the home part of their season on Saturday for Senior Day against Chattanooga. Come out and support the Terriers as the team will give one last hurrah to the class of 2020. Tipoff is at 2:00 pm.
