Spartanburg, SC – The Wofford women's tennis team got back into the win column on Sunday afternoon after a 5-2 win over UNC-Wilmington. The win brings the Terriers to a 6-1 record while UNC-Wilmington moves to 2-4 with the loss.
The number 1 tandem of
Jenna Vroman and
Liz Massie started the day off with a 6-4 win over their double's opponents. Wofford fell in the number 2 spot, but the pairing of
Kay Kluska and
Lilie Steryous won the doubles point after a convincing 6-2 victory to give the Terriers an early 1-0 lead.
It was a slow start for the Terriers in singles after
Liz Massie fell in the 2 spot, but Wofford came back with four straight wins.
Brittney Wilbur made easy work as the number 5 as she won 6-3 and 6-1. Freshman
Georgia Fischer put the squad up 3-1 after she won 6-2 and 6-3.
Lilie Steryous won as number 4 for the team after she rallied back from an early deficit and won the 3
rd set 7-4 on the tiebreaker.
Kay Kluska finished off the day with a strong 6-4, 6-2 win as Wofford rolled to a 5-2 win.
"We came out strong in doubles with high energy and was able to start the day off strong. It was a mental match as much as it was a physical match, and the girls showed great fight and determination to get the win", said coach
Krissy Hall. "I'm so proud of the team's effort today and we will continue to work and get better."
Wofford returns to the court on February 29 when they travel to Coastal Carolina for a 1:30 p.m. start.
