Tennis Falls to Clemson, Rebounds Against King

Spartanburg, SC – The Wofford women's tennis team had a last afternoon as they faced off against Clemson and King University in Sunday's doubleheader showdown. The Terriers fell to Clemson, but came back with a big victory over King.

Georgia Fischer and Brittney Wilbur were the bright spot for Wofford in doubles play as the #3 pairing scored three points in their unfinished match. They finished 4-3, while the Terriers #2's fell 6-1 and the duo of Liz Massie and Jenna Vroman fell 6-2. Wofford showed good fight in singles as Britney Wilbur once again made her voice known. She took six points in the first set before falling in a tiebreaker. Kay Kluska and Jenna Vroman each scored five points against their opposition, and Liz Massie didn't go down without a fight as she scored six in her final set.

The Terriers came back strong in part two of their doubleheader, knocking off King 6-0. Kay Kluska and Lilie Steryous started with a 6-0 win at the #1 doubles, and Ansley Hardeman and Alexandra Hildell won 6-1 at the #2 spot. King only had five players, so they forfeited the third doubles match. Wofford remained dominant in singles as all five matches were won in two sets. Georgia Fischer, Kay Kluska, and Alexandra Hildell all won their matches 6-0, 6-0. Brittney Wilbur won 6-1, 6-1, and Ansley Hardeman finished the day off with a 6-0, 6-2 victory.

"It was really nice to host Clemson. They are such a good team and we competed really hard", said coach Hall. "I thought we bounced back well in the second match and played really solid. Both matches provided us with some good takeaways to work on this week as we head into conference play."

The Terriers will kick off conference play with a drive up to Johnson City to take on ETSU on Saturday, March 7.
