Terriers Make it Three in a Row After Victory Over ETSU

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford's women's basketball team cruised their way to a three-game win streak after a 75-49 win over ETSU. Four terriers found themselves in double digit scoring, including another game-high from Niyah Lutz, to ride the team to a 2-0 start in SoCon play.

Wofford now stands at 6-3 with a 2-0 mark in the SoCon, while ETSU falls to 2-7 and going to 0-2 in the SoCon.

Wofford started out strong with a pair of layups from Jackie Carman for a quick 4-0 lead. Lilly Hatton made a three off the throwback from Alea Harris, then Harris made her own trey with the assist coming from Lutz. Harris dropped another triple and forced ETSU into a timeout with the Terriers up 11. Free throws were the name of the game for the rest of the quarter as Wofford sank five out of their final eight points from the line for a 23-11 lead at the end of the 1st.

Carman proved herself as a driver today as she began the 2nd quarter scoring with another left-handed layup. Lutz swished a three seconds later before the Bucs went on a 7-0 run. Wofford had a 7-0 run right back, five coming from Lutz and the other two from freshman Abbey Crawford. Helen Matthews got on the scoresheet late in the half with a strong layup as the shot clock was winding down, as the Terriers had a 37-24 advantage at halftime.

It was a slower pace to start the 3rd quarter, but Carman hit a 3-pointer to give Wofford a boost just over two minutes in. Harris knocked down a pair of free-throws and Carman scored an old fashioned "and one" at the midway mark. With a full change of subs from Wofford, Annabelle Schultz found her way to the charity stripe and hit two to keep the lead at double digits. Three of the final four buckets from Wofford came via the trey ball, with Lawren Cook, Harris, and Lutz who converted just before the buzzer for a 22 point lead.

It was a more conservative look from the Terriers in the 4th quarter, but Hatton and Lutz were still able to get some scores, including another 3-pointer from the junior out of Charlotte. With the starters now able to rest, Cook was able to get a steal-and-score and tacked on to the lead. Alexis Tomlin rattled in two from the free-throw line, and finished the game's scoring with a put back layup, to give Wofford a 75-49 win.

Niyah Lutz and Jackie Carman tied their season-high in points with 17 and 14, respectively. Alea Harris had a season-high 11, going 3-3 from beyond the arc. Lilly Hatton also added 10 with a game-high eight rebounds. The Terriers outrebounded the Buccaneers, 48-27, and shot 63% from the 3-point line, their best percentage of the year.

"It's always great to win at home and ETSU is a tough team to play so that's even more rewarding. We didn't play our cleanest game, and we'll fix that up for Saturday, but we made some good shots, shot well from range, and from the free-throw line", said head coach Jimmy Garrity. "We had a lot of contributors tonight, outrebounded them by 21, and held them to under 50 points, and when you do that you're most likely going to win. Saturday will be a tight game and we expect their best effort and it will take our best effort to win."

Wofford concludes its series with ETSU on Saturday, January 16 with a 2:00 pm tipoff inside Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium.
