SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College men's and women's cross country teams competed on Saturday morning at the Upstate Invitational at Roger Milliken Research Center Park. The women were fourth and the men were seventh overall in the meet.
Beck Classey was second overall for the men.
In the women's 5K race,
Alexus Atkins was seventh overall in 18:31.8 which was a personal best time.
Mary Claire Ridgeway was 20
th in 19:22.8, followed by
Carolyne Shealy (19:43.9),
Katharine Spence (20:06.22), and
Morgan Roberts (20:12.0) to score for Wofford.
Chloe Gilbert (20:45.5),
Ava Fowler (20:56.0),
Kimber Keene (20:59.9) and
Emma Grace Hendrickson (21:47.9) rounded out the women's finishers.
The men's 8K competition followed and
Beck Classey was second overall with a time of 25:41.9, the sixth-fastest time at that distance in school history.
Josh Hendry was next for the Terriers at 27:02.8 for 24
th place.
Carson Archie (27:52.6),
Jack Moody (28:22.9), and
Demir Degirmenci (28:39.4) completed the scorers for Wofford.
Ryan O'Malley (29:40.9),
Patrick Daly (30:05.2), and
Cooper Reynolds (34:28.2) also finished the course for the Terriers.
Overall, Furman was first in the women's race with 35 points. The men's race was won by Furman with 41 points, followed by Mercer at 56 points. Other NCAA Division I teams competing were UNC Asheville, USC Upstate, Western Carolina, College of Charleston, Winthrop, Gardner-Webb, and South Carolina State.
It marked the final race of the regular season for the Terriers. They will compete on October 30 at the Southern Conference Championships in Lexington, Virginia.
