SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College men's and women's cross country teams competed on Saturday morning in two different events. The women ran at the Asics Invitational in Fairburn, Georgia, while the men's team competed both at the Asics Invitational and the Koala Cross Country Classic in Columbia, South Carolina.
The day began with the men's 8K competition at the Asics Invitational.
Beck Classey was tenth overall in 25:40.46, with the time the fifth-best in school history at that distance.
Demir Degirmenci ran a 28:26.26. Over twenty men's teams competed, including Georgia Tech, Florida State, Mercer, Western Carolina and Samford.
In the women's 5K at the Asics Invitational,
Alexus Atkins was ninth overall in 18:35.26.
Mary Claire Ridgeway was 27
th in 19:10.82, followed by
Carolyne Shealy (19:41.19),
Morgan Roberts (19:50.30),
Ava Fowler (19:53.92),
Chloe Gilbert (20:04.89),
Katharine Spence (20:10.27) and
Emma Grace Hendrickson (21:28.22). The women were seventh overall in the meet with 209 points. Twenty-five women's teams competed, with Samford taking first place and other notable teams included Florida State, Georgia Tech, Davidson, Western Carolina, Mercer, Georgia Southern and Emory.
The men's 8K competition at the Koala Classic rounded out the day.
Carson Archie led the individuals with an eighth-place finish in 26:49.9.
Jack Moody finished in 28:03.9,
Patrick Daly had a time of 28:39.2 and
William Hubbard finished in 30:51.6.
In addition to host Columbia College, teams competing included Allen, Benedict, Belmont Abbey, Bob Jones, Claflin, Cleveland CC, Converse, Florida College, Wofford, Milligan, Morris, Johnson & Wales, Lander, Sandhills CC, Spartanburg Methodist, St. Andrews, Truett-McConnell, and USC-Aiken.
Both the men's and women's teams will be back in action on Saturday, October 16 at the Upstate Invitational. The Southern Conference Championship will be held on October 30 in Lexington, Virginia.
