CONWAY, S.C. – The Wofford women's basketball team started hot and played hard at the HTC Center, but the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers stayed close and pulled off a second-half comeback to best the Terriers, 58-46.
Wofford falls to 2-6 on the season. Coastal Carolina remains undefeated at 7-0.
The Terriers held a 10-point halftime lead, but a rough second half did Wofford in. After posting 29 first half points, the Terriers were outscored 39-17 in the second half. Though shooting only 28.6 percent in the first half, Wofford saw that mark dip to 17.6 percent in the last half. Overall, the Terriers shot 23.2 percent from the field, while the Chanticleers shot 34.2 percent. Coastal Carolina dominated in the paint with 36 points to Wofford's 16. The Chanticleers also received more help from their bench, as 31 of their points came from non-starters. Wofford only posted one bench point. The Chanticleers also pulled down more rebounds, 62 to Wofford's 44.
Jackie Carman led the squad in scoring for a second consecutive game with 13 points, also adding six rebounds.
Alexis Tomlin was the only other Terrier to score double-digits with 10 points, contributing eight boards as well.
Reagan Rapert dished a team-leading three assists with nine points.
Lilly Hatton secured the most boards with 11, adding six points.

Reagan Rapert then knocked down a pair of free throws. The squads traded buckets before
Niyah Lutz began to take charge. She put home a layup and then converted two free throws. After a Coastal Carolina layup, Lutz splashed a triple, and then
Jackie Carman hit one of her own to keep Wofford's momentum up.
Alexis Tomlin scored a layup, and though the Chanticleers added the last bucket of the quarter, the Terriers held a 19-9 lead after the first frame.
Alexis Tomlin opened the scoring in the second quarter with a layup, but Coastal Carolina immediately responded with a jumper. The Chanticleers then splashed a three, but before they could pick up some momentum, Tomlin scored another layup. After a Coastal Carolina layup,
Lilly Hatton drained a triple of her own, followed by a
Reagan Rapert three. But the Chanticleers hit their own triple to keep pace, with each team posting 10 points in the quarter. Wofford took a 29-19 lead into halftime.
Coastal Carolina knocked down a jumper to begin the second half.
Reagan Rapert hit a three-pointer, but a Chanticleer layup kept pace. The squads traded free throws and a couple of layups before Coastal Carolina started to close the gap. With Wofford leading by nine, the Chanticleers secured a layup plus a foul, converting the and-one attempt.
Jackie Carman hit a free throw, but another Coastal Carolina layup lowered the lead to five. The Chanticleers pulled within three after another layup, but
Alexis Tomlin secured one of her own to help stave off the Chanticleers at the end of the frame. Wofford clung to a 40-35 lead entering the fourth quarter.
Coastal Carolina secured the first four points of the final frame to pull within one.
Jackie Carman drained a three attempting to keep the Chanticleers at bay, but they knocked down a triple of their own to keep the momentum. 11 seconds later, a jumper put Coastal Carolina in front for their first lead of the contest, and they would not relent it. Those points kicked off a 15-point run for the Chanticleers.
Helen Matthews converted a free throw to break the streak, but Wofford trailed by 10 points with under two and a half minutes left to play. With the momentum securely in their favor, the Chanticleers hit another jumper. Carman would score a layup, but Coastal Carolina put home one more of their own to finish off the comeback, besting Wofford 58-56.
Wofford returns home to Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium on Wednesday, Dec. 8 for a contest with Brevard College. The Terriers and Tornados will square off at 7:00 pm.
