Ralph Nets Team-High Seventh Goal in Loss to No. 23 James Madison

Elisabeth Ralph tallies her ninth consecutive match with a goal for Wofford

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Junior midfielder Elisabeth Ralph tallied her team-best seventh goal of the year on Friday afternoon, as the Wofford women's lacrosse team suffered a grueling 21-1 non-conference loss to the 23rd-ranked James Madison Dukes (3-1) in Harrisonburg, Virginia at Sentara Park.

Ralph tallied two of Wofford's three shots on goal for the day, finding the back of the net early in the second half for her ninth consecutive match recording a goal, dating back to Wofford's season opener at Duke last year on Feb. 13, 2020.

The Hillsdale, New Jersey native holds 44 career goals in old gold and black, as Ralph is the program's second leading goal scorer, behind Hannah Mutch '20 (52). She is also sixth in the SoCon for goals with a 1.75 goal-per-game average.

Sophomore Brenna Duley recorded the assist on Ralph's lone score of the match, marking a consecutive match with an assist for the attacker from Forest Hill, Maryland. Classmate Aislinn Washburn registered the starting nod at goalkeeper for the Terriers on Friday, recording 11 saves and a team-best five ground balls despite suffering her first loss of the season.

Hannah Wurzel, Ally Furnari and Emma Gentile recorded two draw controls apiece, while Wurzel and Furnari each grabbed a ground ball, in addition to a caused turnover for Furnari.

Sophomore midfielder Leah Hurley added her team-best 10th ground ball of the season, coupled with a caused turnover on defense, while sophomore Olivia Abé recorded a shot on goal in the match.

In sequential order, Leah Hurley (2.50), Olivia Abé (2.25) and Elisabeth Ralph (2.00) all lead the SoCon in ground balls per game.

Despite an overwhelming start to the match that saw a 15-point deficit heading into the final 30 minutes, the Terriers attempted to respond with a persistent second-half effort, forcing eight JMU turnovers on the day to relatively disrupt a six-goal second half that came in lengthy spurts for the Dukes.

Ultimately, the Dukes' attack was too much for Wofford to handle, seeing an insurmountable 35-3 shot differential for the match, as JMU won 16 draw controls to the Terriers' seven.

Next, Wofford (0-4, 0-1 SoCon) travels to Rock Hill, S.C., on Tuesday, March 16, for a road non-conference tilt at Winthrop, prior to its next league matchup at Mercer on Friday, Mar. 19.
