Terriers Fall Short Versus Bulldogs

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford's women's soccer team stubbled against the Samford Bulldogs on Friday night, losing by a 2-0 final. Wofford moves to 2-2-1 on the season, while Samford takes their record to 3-0-1 in conference play.

It was a slow start for both teams as Samford's defensive press slowed down the Wofford attack, but the Terriers' defense held strong against any sort of Bulldog offense. Samford had the opening chance with a header off of a corner, but it didn't threaten Maria Mon and the Wofford goal. Rachel Rasins had the first shot for the Terriers as she slipped but still got enough power on it to force a save from the Bulldog goalkeeper. Mon came up with a save of her own 10 minutes later, but Samford was able to get the first goal in the 37th minute. The Terriers pressed the final minutes of the half, but were down one at the break.

The Bulldogs began the second half with a shot on goal, but Mon went down easily to her right to make the save. Mon came up with another save which allowed Wofford to play on the counter-attack, as Dani Segovia had her left-footed effort just slide wide. Eva Dailey took a shot from 30 yards out, but Samford's keeper had no issues with that. The Bulldogs would make it 2-0 after a turnover on a goal kick and Morgan Greene saw it go into the top corner. Wofford did all they could in the final 10 minutes, but Samford held strong in their defense as the Terriers fell 2-0.
