SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford's women's soccer team wasn't able to get over the hump in Sunday's afternoon contest against the Mocs, as they fell 1-0. Wofford is now 2-3-1 on the season and Chattanooga pushes ahead to 3-1-1 in SoCon play.
Wofford and Chattanooga took time to develop their attacking strategy as both teams tried to control possession in the early going. The Mocs ended up getting a shot off of a corner, but it sailed over the net. The Terriers won a corner of their own and as it was played into the box, the ball bumbled around some feet before the Mocs cleared it. Wofford had their chance at a goal seconds before halftime as
Candler Fontaine subbed in and found a loose ball with the goalkeeper out of her net, but her spinning shot just went wide as the two sides were knotted at halftime.
The Terriers came out in the second half with more intensity, controlling the pace of play for the first 15 minutes. Unfortunately, the Mocs were able to get one counter attack and score off of it to take a 1-0 lead. Wofford made some adjustments to try and tie the game, but Chattanooga's defense kept holding on.
Rachel Rasins had an attempt as she opened up her body and struck it with her right foot, but it went wide of the post. The Terriers kept pushing until the very end with multiple corner kicks and loose balls, but nothing came of it as they couldn't get the equalizer to send the game into overtime.
