MACON, GA. – Wofford's men's soccer team was still in search of their first win in the 2021 spring season, as they took on Mercer on Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately, the Terriers weren't able to take advantage of the Bears going down a man in the second half, as they fell 3-1.
Both teams took shots early and often as Wofford had the first chance with
Maceon Urueta, but his shot went over the crossbar. Mercer returned with a shot of their own, but goalkeeper
Grant Wollam made the save. Wollam was tested again 10 minutes later and held his ground as the Bears and Terriers kept letting it fly. Wofford's first shot on target came from
Adrian Roseth, but it was Mercer who struck first with a goal in the 33
rd minute. Wollam had to make another save right after the kickoff to keep it a one goal deficit going into halftime.
Wofford made changes at the break, but Mercer tacked on a second in the 51
st minute to really put the Terriers in a tough spot. A third came for the Bears in the 59
th minute as Wofford struggled to find the offense they had in the first half.
Daan Snellink had an attempt on a freekick, but it was handled by Mercer's keeper. After a red card on the Bears,
Charlie Harris found the back of the net in the 72
nd minute to give some life to the Terriers, making it 3-1. Wofford pushed for the final 15 minutes, but nothing came more than the one goal, coming up short against Mercer.
