SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford women's soccer team took a 0-0 draw into halftime and came out firing on all cylinders, scoring midway through the 2
nd half and finishing off the game with a goal in the 88
th minute.
Wofford looked like they were going to jump out to a 1-0 lead early, but
Rachel Rasins' shot went out wide for a goal kick.
Katie Gilligan had an attempt in the 25
th minute, but it never threatened the keeper. The Citadel returned fire minutes later, but
Maria Mon was up to task and made the save. Mon saved another right before half as the two teams were knotted up at the break.
The Terriers were on the attack again early in the 2
nd half as Rasins nicked one off the post and
Eva Dailey's shot was saved. Rasins' next attempt was pushed out for a corner which resulted in
Olivia Hughes scoring the first goal of the game.
Leanna Guion whipped it into the box and Hughes got her head to it and knocked it over the goalkeeper. The Bulldogs pressed for the equalizer, but nothing came close to
Kelly Hogan, who replaced Mon for the 2
nd half. Wofford sealed the victory in the 88
th minute as Gilligan played a through ball to Rasins who went around the keeper and slotted it into the back of the net. The last two minutes ran off the clock and Wofford took home win number one of the season.
