SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford women's lacrosse team put up a valiant effort to the league-leading Furman Paladins (10-3, 3-0 SoCon) on Wednesday afternoon, as five Terriers recorded at least two goals, though, the Paladins managed to outlast Wofford 21-13 at Gibbs Stadium.

Wofford concludes the regular season 2-8 overall and 1-3 in the Southern Conference, as the Terriers will prepare next for the 2021 SoCon Women's Lacrosse Championships as the No. 4 seed, slated for Friday, May 6-7, in Macon, Georgia.

Junior
Ally Furnari paced the Terriers with five points on three goals – her fifth consecutive game with at least three goals – and two assists. Furnari also compiled seven draw controls, matching the fourth-best single-game tally in program history, in addition to a ground ball.

Leah Hurley notched her first career hat trick with a career-best three goals to pair with an assist on the day, while recording two draw controls, as junior
Elisabeth Ralph also added three goals, a team-best five ground balls, two caused turnovers and one draw control.

Emma Gentile and
Olivia Abé round out the Terriers' point-getters with two goals apiece, as Gentile recorded three draw controls while Abé also scooped a ground ball. Senior
Tori Saylor led the defensive effort with four caused turnovers, matching a program and career-best, and a ground ball, while
Emma Krasinski tallied three draw controls on the day.

Kelsey Thompson recorded five saves in goal, while
Aislinn Washburn made a late appearance in the match, recording two saves in 5:46 of action.

Emma Gentile corralled the first score of the day on a free-position attempt three minutes in to hold an early lead, though, the Paladins blitzed the Terriers with seven unanswered goals over a 10-minute span to bust open a 7-1 advantage by the 17:05 mark. The two teams traded goals, as
Ally Furnari then provided a brief spark, assisting
Elisabeth Ralph's first score of the day before taking it in herself at 13:47 (8-3).

Leah Hurley sparked her scoring presence shortly after, finding the back of the net on a free-position attempt, before dishing a helper to
Olivia Abé to cut the spread in half with 7:12 to play, 10-5. Abé's goal proved the be the spark Wofford needed, as the Terriers would embark on a 3-0 run prior to a late Furman goal sending both teams into the intermission at 11-7.

During the run, the momentum began to slowly shift into Wofford's favor, as
Emma Gentile would manage to net the next goal three minutes after Abé's (10-6). Furnari then followed, capitalizing with another unassisted goal to close in, 10-7, as Furman's Syndey McClure would find the final score to provide a brief sigh of relief for the Paladins heading into halftime.

Despite trailing by four goals, the Terriers competed strong at the X in the first half, holding the edge in draw controls through the opening stanza, 10-9.

Abé carried the momentum that Wofford left off with into the second half, burying a shot 30 seconds into the second frame to bring the margin within three, 11-8. However, from there, the Paladins clamped down and began to double-down on its offensive prowess in piling on a momentum-crushing six-goal run that provided a 17-8 cushion with 22:49 left in the match.

Furnari found Ralph again at 21:46 to break the silence and fend off a running clock scenario (17-9), though, the Paladins managed to swiftly extend a double-digit margin with consecutive goals in a 1:30 span, 19-9.

Despite the margin, the Terriers continued to compete and show fight, seeing Ralph and Furnari's third and fourth goals, respectively, while
Leah Hurley would notch her career-high on a late free-position score and solo shot with 1:40 left to ultimately close the match in Furman's favor, 21-13, by the final horn.
