JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Three members of the Wofford College track and field team competed at the 2021 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field East preliminary competition held at the University of North Florida over the past three days.
For the second time in school history, Wofford College had three individuals compete as
Kerrington Johnson ran the 100-meter hurdles,
Tanner Henry competed in the high jump and
Isaiah Ellis ran the 110-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles.
On Wednesday, Ellis ran the 110-meter hurdles in 14.38 to finish 43
rd of the 48 qualifiers. He followed two hours later with a time of 54.01 in the 400-meter hurdles to finish 44
th of the 48 qualifiers. A senior from Chesnee, South Carolina, Ellis was the first men's track athlete at Wofford to compete in two events at an NCAA regional.
In the 100-meter hurdles on Thursday,
Kerrington Johnson ran a 13.49 to place 33
rd of the 48 qualifiers. It was her second-fastest time in the event, which she won at the 2021 Southern Conference Championship.
Tanner Henry took part in the high jump on Friday afternoon. He cleared 2.01 meters and 2.06 meters but was unable to clear 2.11 meters in three attempts. He was 37
th of the 48 qualifiers. He holds the school record in the high jump at 6.10 meters. Henry was the first Wofford student-athlete to qualify for the NCAAs in a field event.
The top twelve qualifiers out of the two regions (24 total) will compete in the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships held June 9-12 in Eugene, Oregon.
