SPARTANBURG, S.C. – On Friday night, the Wofford College women's soccer team was defeated 7-0 by Radford at Snyder Field. The Highlanders scored twice in the first half and added five goals in the second half for the road victory.
The Highlanders took the first shot of the game less than twenty seconds into play that was high. Wofford's first shot came at the four-minute mark by
Katie Gilligan which was saved.
Radford had a free kick across midfield and off a deflected ball by a Terrier, Kat Parris had a header into the top right corner of the goal for a 1-0 lead at the 35:21 mark. Less than two minutes later Radford had another free kick that was put into the net by Brianna Oliver to make it 2-0. In the final five minutes of the half both teams put shots on goal that were saved.
In the second half, Lily McLane scored for the Highlanders at the 48:00 mark and three minutes later
Rachel Rasins had a shot hit the crossbar for the Terriers. Izzy Armstrong scored at the 57:00 mark for a 4-0 advantage for Radford. With 64:21 on the clock, Alexeis Kirnos scored on a free kick from beyond the 18 into the top right corner. Brianna Oliver scored her second goal of the night at the 73:00 mark and with five minutes left in the game a goal by Maevyn Jones provided the final margin.
Overall, Wofford (1-2) had ten shots to 22 for Radford (2-0). Radford also had a five to four advantage in corner kicks.
Sophie Hefner (1-1) had two saves in goal for the Terriers in the first half.
Caroline Doss and
Maria Mon played the second half, with Mon recording one save. Radford keeper Lauren Seedlock had three saves in the match.
The Terriers will travel to Charlotte to face the 49ers on Sunday afternoon at 5:00 p.m.
