Wofford Volleyball Unveils 2021 Schedule

Wofford to host fall tournament, 11 home dates at Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford College head volleyball coach Lynze Roos announced the 2021 fall schedule on Wednesday afternoon, as the Terriers will compete a 28-match slate that includes four nonconference tournaments, including three ACC matchups, and 11 home dates at Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium.

"Our players and staff are thrilled to return to a normal fall schedule," said Roos. "We had an amazing spring season despite all the challenges of COVID, and we are ready to build on all we learned this past year."

Wofford will kick the season off with the first of a competitive slate of fall tournaments in Boca Raton, Florida at Florida Atlantic University from Aug. 27-28. The Terriers play doubleheaders against North Florida and Stony Brook on Friday, Aug. 27, followed by a match against host FAU on Aug. 28.

"Our trip from FAU will be an exciting time to take our Florida players close to home," added Roos. "Between seniors Kelly Hubbard and Claire Meier, juniors Meghan Yaffa and Alexa Bertsch and sophomore Kaitlyn Brown – we have some players who have had a great impact on our program from the Sunshine State.  It will be awesome for them to have some family and friends able to cheer them on at FAU."

Next, the Terriers will travel to Raleigh, North Carolina to compete in matches against East Carolina and N.C. State at the Wolfpack's Reynolds Coliseum on Friday, Sept. 3, followed by an away tilt at University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill on Saturday, Sept. 4.

"The UNC/NC State weekend will be a true challenge as we will face some power house programs. It will be a true test of our athleticism and style of play."

Wofford then returns to Spartanburg to host the Wofford Invitational at the Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium on Sept. 11-12, hosting doubleheaders against South Carolina State (10 a.m.) and Gardner-Webb (4 p.m.) on Sept. 11, followed by an 11 a.m. matchup against North Alabama on Sunday, Sept. 12.

"Our home tournament is always a wonderful experience for our players and our first time to have our fans in our building," said Roos. "We will be excited to host some programs being led by new head coaches who will be also challenging their teams to play at a high level."

Wofford's final nonconference tournament consists of the Virginia Tech Tournament in Blacksburg, Virginia on Sept. 17-18, as Wofford will face reigning MEAC champions North Carolina A&T and ACC's Virginia Tech on Friday, Sept. 17, in conclusion with a Sunday, Sept. 18 match versus George Mason.

The Terriers open the Southern Conference slate with a home match versus Furman on Friday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m., prior to a three-match road swing at Samford (Sept. 24), Mercer (Sept. 25) and The Citadel (Sept. 29).

"The Southern Conference has tremendous talent returning in the league. We will also see some familiar faces returning due to the COVID year eligibility extension," added Roos of the league's strength. "Every match is an opportunity to improve and hopefully make our run toward Wofford's first women's team championship."

Wofford then returns to Spartanburg for a four-game home stand at Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium, hosting UNCG and Western Carolina for 7 p.m. matches on Friday, October 7 and Saturday, Oct. 8, respectively, followed by Chattanooga the following weekend at 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 15, and ETSU at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 16.

The back half of the SoCon schedule begins with a mid-week matchup at Furman on Wednesday, Oct. 20, prior to hosting Mercer (Oct. 22), Samford (Oct. 23) and The Citadel (Oct. 27) for 6 p.m. matches in Spartanburg. The Terriers then conclude the regular season with four consecutive matches on the road at Western Carolina (Nov. 5), UNCG (Nov. 6), ETSU (Nov. 12) and Chattanooga (Nov. 13).

The 2021 Southern Conference Volleyball Championships will be hosted in Birmingham, Alabama at the Pete Hanna Center on the campus of Samford University on Nov. 19-21.
