Tomlin Earns Second SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week Nod

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Senior forward Alexis Tomlin of Wofford women's basketball has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for all competition from Jan. 5-11. The selection is made by the conference office.

To qualify for recognition, the guidelines require that a student-athlete must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3, and the student-athlete must have completed one full year at the school.

This is Tomlin's second student-athlete of the week honor this season. She received her first on Dec. 1, 2021, becoming the first to receive the distinction in the history of the Wofford women's basketball program. She is now the program's first two-time winner.

"I'm really happy and proud of Lexx," said head coach Jimmy Garrity. "She does tremendous work both on the court and in the classroom. She is a fantastic representative of our program and Wofford College."

In Wofford's only game of the selection period, a 72-48 victory in the Southern Conference opener over Western Carolina on Jan. 6, Tomlin paced Wofford with her third double-double of the season, the fifth of her career and fifth by a Terrier in the campaign. The Myrtle Beach, S.C. native tallied 11 points and 13 rebounds. Her 13 boards tied her career-high, as did her three blocks. Both marks set new single-game bests for a Terrier this season. Tomlin has been a dominant force on the glass all season long, as she currently sits fifth on the conference leaderboard with 7.6 RPG.

A biology and mathematics major, the senior touts a 4.00 cumulative GPA. She will be attending medical school upon graduation.

The Terriers boast a 1-0 SoCon record and are 6-9 overall after downing the Catamounts last Thursday night. Wofford will now travel to Greenville, S.C. tomorrow night for a matchup with the in-state rival Furman Paladins at 7:00 pm.

Also nominated for Student-Athlete of the Week: Nigeria Harkless (Mercer women's basketball).
