LEXINGTON V.A. – The Wofford women's soccer team erased a one-goal deficit in the second half defeating VMI on the road 2-1 after
Isabella Steiner netted the game-winning goal with 81 seconds remaining in the match. The win moves Wofford's record to 7-5-3 (2-2-2 SoCon).
Wofford tested the VMI defense early, with
Meara Kelly firing a shot on goal six minutes into the match, but the shot was saved by the Keydet keeper. Kelly rattled off two more shots to follow, but both missed the mark keeping the match scoreless.
The Terriers and Keydets both tallied four shots in the opening half, with Wofford having the lone shot on goal in the frame.
VMI netted the first goal of the game just five minutes into the second half, after Riley Boucher found the back of the net off a pass from Anissa Cheikh.
The Terriers responded quickly on offense, with
Leanna Guion tying the match off a pass from
Alexis Mapplebeck in the 61st minute.
It wasn't until another Mapplebeck pass found Steiner for her first career goal with just under a minute and a half to go that Wofford took the lead for good.
