SPARTANBURG S.C. – Two second half goals helped the Wofford women's soccer team hand Chattanooga its first SoCon loss of the season 2-0 at Snyder Field on Friday afternoon. The win improves Wofford's record to 8-6-3 (3-3-2 SoCon).
Chattanooga tested Wofford early in the contest, with four shots on goal in the opening 17 minutes, but
Caroline Doss and the Terrier defense stood strong.
Wofford had a chance in the 25th minute, but
Meara Kelly's shot was saved by Caroline Ekern. Both sides collected six shots in the first half, with the match remaining scoreless through halftime.
The Terriers wasted no time on offense in the second half with
Ansley Elizalde sending a deep shot through the back of the net in the 53rd minute, giving Wofford a 1-0 lead.
The Terriers doubled its lead in the 80th minute, with
Haley McCaffrey netting her second goal of the season off a pass from
Saachi Bureau.
The Terrier defense shut down the Mocs in the final 10 minutes, securing Wofford's first win over Chattanooga since 2014.
