SPARTANBURG S.C. – The Wofford women's soccer team dropped its regular-season finale on Sunday afternoon 1-2 to Samford at Snyder Field. The Terriers honored McKenzie Guest, Olivia Hughes, Abigail McKenzie, Rachel Rasins and Lexi Reichenbach as part of the Senior Day festivities.

The loss drops Wofford's record to 8-7-3 (3-4-2 SoCon), the first winning season for the program since 2013 (8-6-5).

Both sides got the offense clicking right out of the gate, with Samford opening the match with a goal from Ella Simpson just 53 seconds into the game.

The Terriers tied up the match shortly after with Ansley Elizalde's third goal of the season coming off a penalty kick, tying the match 1-1 at the 7:10 mark.

Samford answered quickly with its own penalty kick goal two minutes later, with Whitaker Buchanan scoring the goal to give the lead back to the Bulldogs 2-1.

The Bulldogs had chances to double their lead in the 40th and 41st minutes, but Caroline Doss was there to make back-to-back saves and keep the game within one. Both sides went into halftime with four shots and Samford clinging to a one-goal lead.

Wofford had a look to tie the game in the 54th minute with a shot from Mia Bookhard, but a diving save from Emma Donley preserved the lead for Samford.

The Terriers had one final opportunity on offense in the closing minutes, but shots from Elizalde and Haley McCaffrey weren't able to sneak past the Samford defense.
