GREENSBORO, N.C. – Sarah Barham became just the eighth Terrier in program history with 300 career blocks as she helped guide the Wofford volleyball team to a straight-set win (25-22, 25-20, 25-22) over the UNCG Spartans inside the Fleming Gymnasium Saturday evening. With the win, Wofford improves to 14-11 overall and 6-7 in SoCon play. UNCG drops to 10-15 and 4-8 in league action.
Â
With the sweep, 10 of Wofford's 14 wins on the season have been in straight sets. The 10 sweeps are the most in a season for the Terriers since amassing 11 in the 2017 campaign.
Â
Though the Spartans delivered more aces at 6-4, the Terriers controlled the net behind Barham's seven blocks. Wofford swatted 11 blocks as a unit while allowing UNCG to knock away only four. Wofford's attack was also stout, with the Terriers swinging at a .270 clip to just a .143 mark by the Spartans. Notably, Wofford committed 13 errors while forcing UNCG into 23.

Junior
Sarah Barham led the way with her eight blocks to match her own single-match high for a Terrier this season, but none were bigger than her second. The Summerfield, N.C. native entered the night with 298 blocks in her career, and with her second in the first set she became just the eighth Terrier all-time to reach the 300 milestone. Her eight swats move her to 306 in her career, elevating her to seventh on the program's all-time leaderboard as she passes LeAnne Oliver's 303.
Â
Sarah MacLean was a force at the net tonight as well, as her six blocks clocked in just behind Barham's seven. The Sarah duo each contributed seven kills alongside their blocking efforts.
Â
Millie Loehr paced the offense, contributing 10 kills for back-to-back matches in double figures.
Mary Emily Morgan and
Bella Zeman were right behind with nine and eight, respectively. Loehr aided in Wofford's impressive team hitting percentage with her individual .500 clip behind a lone error on 18 swings.
Â
Victoria Hensley guided the offense with her 33 assists. The freshman added 10 digs for her sixth double-double. She is now tied for the team lead with
Emily Hodsdon, and five of those double-doubles have come in the last seven matches. She also tied for the team's ace lead tonight with two, matching
Abbey Richman.
Â
In addition, Richman notched 16 digs to lead the team. She had tallied double-digit digs in each of the last 17 contests, leading the team in all of them.
Â
Set one was tight until the middle going when Wofford found a rhythm for an eight-point run. Up 10-7,
Sarah MacLean notched a kill to kick off the groove. She would add another, and UNCG aided with three errors. But the run was highlighted by a pair of Barham blocks, each in tandem with another Terrier,
Sarah MacLean and
Mary Emily Morgan to be precise. When the dust settled, Wofford held an 18-7 advantage. But UNCG chipped away, and a 10-1 run late pulled the Spartans within two. It was not enough, though, as Barham delivered the set-clinching kill for a 25-22 win.
Â
Set two was close most of the way as well, with a Spartan kill evening it up at 12. But a four-point run punctuated by an
Abbey Richman ace put the Terriers ahead 16-12. Richman tallied another ace later for a 23-19 lead, but the Spartans responded with a kill. However, Mille Loehr then took charge to swing down a pair of kills to lock down to second set for the Terriers at 25-20, bringing Wofford a set away from a win.
Â
Hoping to race to the sweep, Wofford claimed the first three points of set three, but UNCG responded with the three to level the set in hopes of extending the match. The squads kept trading blows, neither side relenting. A pair of UNCG points put the Spartans up late by a margin of 21-20.
Bella Zeman then evened the match before a Spartan error put Wofford back in front. A Wofford error tied the contest again at 22 all, but that was when the Terriers decided to end things. Zeman delivered another kill, and then the blocking efforts ramped back up. A tandem block by the Sarahs of Barham and MacLean created match point, and another tandem block, this one by way of Barham and Zeman, became a fitting end to the match.
Â
Wofford remains on the road but returns to the Palmetto State for a match-up at The Citadel on Wednesday, Nov. 2. The bout against the Bulldogs in Charleston is set to begin at 6:00 p.m., and then the Terriers will have a little over a week off before returning home to conclude the regular season.
