Doss’ Career High Forces Scoreless Draw With Mercer

SPARTANBURG S.C. – A career-high 11 saves for reigning SoCon Defensive Player of the Week Caroline Doss propelled the Terriers to a scoreless draw against Mercer at Snyder Field. With the tie, Wofford moves to 6-4-3 (1-1-2 SoCon).

The Bears tested Doss early, with the Wofford keeper picking up her first save of the match just over the 10-minute mark.

Wofford's lone shot of the half came from Mia Bookhard at the 17:53 mark, with her shot being saved by the Mercer keeper. The Bears followed by rattling off shots in the 18th and 19th minutes, but Doss was in the right spots to prevent the ball from passing.

The Bears out-shot Wofford 10-1 in the opening frame, with Doss collecting six saves.

The Terrier defense picked up right where it left off in the second half, preventing Mercer from finding the back of the net, while Doss continued to collect saves.

Doss came up huge in the closing minutes of the match, with an out-reached save at the top left corner of the net, just getting enough of the ball to sail it over the crossbar with seven minutes left in the match.

The Terriers had a chance to break the tie with four minutes remaining, but Sydney Soehn's shot was saved by Lindsay Bell of Mercer.

After a free kick was awarded to Mercer with two seconds left in the match just outside the circle, Doss sealed the draw with her eleventh save of the match.
