Men’s Basketball Falls in Road Contest to High Point

HIGH POINT N.C. – The Wofford men's basketball team dropped their first road game of the season 80-91 at High Point Saturday afternoon. B.J. Mack led the Terriers with 21 points with four rebounds, three blocks and two assists in the game while Jackson Paveletzke continued to shine to start his career, dropping 18 points and three assists.

Corey Tripp added another 10 points while also grabbing six rebounds and five assists. Messiah Jones finished with 10 points, three rebounds and a steal.

After both sides struggled to produce a basket in the opening minutes, High Point struck first just under the 18-minute mark with Zach Austin's three-point basket. The Panthers went on to extend their lead to 9-4 before Mack brought the Terriers within two after converting a layup and free throw five minutes into the game.

The Panther offense continued to apply pressure on Wofford, allowing High Point to extend its lead to 10 at 28-18 with six minutes left in the first half. The Panthers closed the opening half on a 11-4 run, giving High Point a 39-22 lead at halftime.

After both sides exchanged baskets to start the second half, Wofford embarked on a quick 8-0 run to get within eight points of High Point at 38-46 with 16 minutes remaining. Paveletzke ignited the run with a fast-break layup and Tripp and Mack capped the run off with back-to-back three-pointers.

Wofford couldn't get any closer than that as High Point was able to answer each Wofford rally. A lights out display of shooting for the Panthers (31-of-58, 53.4%) and from Jaden House (33 points on 10-of-15 shooting) carried the team the rest of the way.
