Fourth-seeded Terriers geared for Ingles SoCon Basketball Championship

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The No. 4 seed Wofford men's basketball team is geared for the 2021-22 Ingles Southern Conference Basketball Championship, slated to face No. 5 seed VMI in Saturday's quarterfinals at the Harrah's Cherokee Center in Asheville, N.C.

Wofford enters the Southern Conference quarterfinals winners of four of its last five regular-season games, as the last time the Terriers and Keydets met in the SoCon Championships was March 9, 2019, in which Wofford won 99-72 en route to its fifth SoCon Tournament title. The Terriers are 4-2 against VMI under head coach Jay McAuley and own an all-time series edge of 20-8, as both teams split win for the 2021-22 season.
 
LAST TIME OUT VS. VMI
Max Klesmit and B.J. Mack combined for 43 points on Feb. 23, guiding Wofford to an 83-72 win over VMI inside Cameron Hall after pulling away in the latter portion of the second half with leads as large as 17 points. Senior Ryan Larson added 15 points to cap three Terriers in double figures. Wofford shot 67.9 percent from the field on 19-of-28 shooting over the final 20 minutes to finish the game 56.1 percent (32-of-57) and 36 percent from 3-point range on 9-of-25 shots, handing VMI just its fourth loss at home this season. Additionally, the Terriers hit 83.3 percent of their shots from the charity stripe (10-of-12), while winning the rebound battle, 36-26, and amassing a 42-26 differential on points inside the paint.
 
ALL-SOUTHERN CONFERENCE
Junior forward B.J. Mack (16.4 PPG / 5.9 RPG) and sophomore guard Max Klesmit (15.0 PPG / 66 3FGM) were named to the 2021-22 All-SoCon Second and Third team, respectively, by the league's coaches and media on Wednesday afternoon. Mack has reached double figures in 27 of 30 contests, riding a current streak of 19-straight, on 55 percent shooting from the floor (2nd SoCon), including 44.9 percent from beyond the arc (35-of-78). Wofford is 12-2 on the season when Klesmit hits three or more 3-point field goals, averaging 2.3 made per game (8th SoCon).
 
TOP-20 FROM BEYOND THE ARC
The Terriers are a top-20 3-point shooting team in the nation, ranking 18th in the NCAA for total 3-point field goals made (288) and 20th in 3-point field goals per game (9.6).
 
LARSON'S HELPING HAND
Senior point guard Ryan Larson leads the team and is second in the SoCon with a 2.1 assist to turnover ratio, while dishing a team-best 3.7 assists per game (7th SoCon). Larson has dished five or more assists in 10 games this season, sitting four assists shy (316) of moving into 10th all-time at Wofford and passing former Wofford great Karl Cochran '15.
