BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. –
Ellie Gower's first career goal proved to be the game-winning goal in the 86th minute as Wofford women's soccer defeated Gardner-Webb 3-2 on the road. The Terriers move to 3-2-1 on the season.
"Right before I went on, Emily [Grant] told me to score a goal and the likelihood of that was small, but I worked very hard to get as close to the goal as I could," Gower said. "I saw Megan [Childress] was about to play the ball to me and, in my head, I said to stay calm, and I saw the keeper out of position and I drove the ball to the lower corner."
The Terriers got the offense rolling in the opening half, with
Ashley Grant scoring her third goal of the season in the 35th minute. Wofford held on to the 1-0 lead at halftime.
After Gardner-Webb tied the match in the opening minutes of the second half,
Olivia Hughes put Wofford back on top off a pass from
Mia Bookhard at the 59:43 mark.

Wofford continued to rattle off shots, but was unable to connect on any scoring chances. It wasn't until Gower's goal off a pass from
