ATLANTA, Ga. – On Sunday morning, the Wofford College men's tennis team was defeated 7-0 by Georgia Tech at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex. The Yellow Jackets won the doubles point by taking two of the three matches and secured wins in all six singles matches.
In doubles,
Max Graham and
Callum Rendle had an early 3-1 lead at the #1 position before falling 6-3. At #2 and #3 doubles, both matches were tied at 2-2.
Ashe Ray and
Robbie Young earned the win at #3 by a 6-3 score.
Ian Rasheed and
Will Fullett were defeated 6-3 at the #2 position as the Yellow Jackets clinched the doubles point.
Georgia Tech won the #1, #2, #3 and #6 singles in straight sets. At #5 singles,
Alex Horn lost the second set 7-6 in a 7-3 tiebreaker. The lone match to go to a third set was
Will Fullett at #4 singles. After dropping the first set 7-5, Fullett won the second set 6-3. The third set tiebreaker was won 10-2 by Georgia Tech.
"The doubles matches were really close this morning," said head coach
Rod Ray. "We had chances today. I'm disappointed with the overall outcome, but proud of our team at the same time."
Wofford will travel to the University of North Florida on Saturday, February 4, for their next match. The first home match will be on Wednesday, February 8 against Young Harris College.
