Cullowhee, NC- In her second career start, sophomore goalkeeper
Rylee Godbold faced immense pressure from the Western Carolina women's soccer team in Wofford's 5-0 loss in Cullowhee, North Carolina.
The sophomore saved a career high five shots in the first half of the match and finished with six saves on the afternoon. Godbold was called on early in the match, registering her first save in the third minute. A goal off a corner kick at the 7:59 mark would put the Catamounts ahead and threatened to expand their lead but were stymied by Godbold in the 19th, 21st, 25th and 27th minutes to keep the halftime deficit to just a single goal.
Two goals in rapid succession to open the second half made a comeback a more daunting task the Terriers did not shy away from. A header from senior
Meara Kelly off a free kick in the 64th minute and a shot from junior
Megan Childress in the 80th minute represented Wofford's best chances to score that found the goalkeepers hands and deflected off the woodwork respectively and the match ended 5-0 Western Carolina.
With their starts today, Kelly and freshman
Bailey Mullen remain the only Terriers to start all 13 matches this season.
Wofford is back on Snyder Field for their next match- playing host to the UNCG Spartans. The Terriers picked up their first series win over the Spartans the last time these two teams matched up in Spartanburg in 2021. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 PM on ESPN+.
