Men’s Golf Concludes Play in USF Invitational

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. – The Wofford men's golf team used a final day surge to finish eighth at the 2023 USF Invitational, hosted by the University of South Florida at the par-72, 7,557-yard Southern Hills Plantation Club. The Terriers finished with a score of 866 at 2-over and were led by Harry Jones with an even-par 216 in a tie for 24th.
 
The Terriers totaled 866 at 2-over in the event. Wofford carded 289 and 291 in the first two rounds on day one to sit in 13th entering the final day. But in that concluding round, the Terriers surged with a 2-under 286 to improve five spots on the leaderboard to secure an eighth-place result in the 14-team field.
 
Host USF tied with Stetson for first place with each finishing 16-under at 848.
 
Harry Jones topped the Terriers with a 216 score, even par, to place in a tie for 24th in the 79-player event. After posting scores of 73 and 74 on day one, Jones powered the Wofford surge in the final round with a 3-under 69 to improve 26 places on the leaderboard. The final-round 69 is Jones' best round of the season.
 
USF individual Sam Nicholson and Davidson's Will Davis tied for low medalist honors as each posted a 13-under 203.
 
Ben Jordan overcame an opening-round stumble of 77 by carding a 71 in each of the following two rounds to finish with a 3-over 219, placing in a tie for 36th. Cedric Otten was not far behind, tying for 41st at 4-over with 220. Otten posted a 73 and 76 in the first two rounds before a final-round 71.
 
Jay Beach (72-76-75) scored 223, tying for 51st. Charles Warren (71-70-85) wraps up the Terrier lineup in 59th after carding 226.
 
Wofford will be back in action with one more fall event, concluding the fall slate in late October at the White Sands Bahamas Invitational. The event hosted by Santa Clara in The Bahamas is a three-day tournament running from Friday, October 20 to Sunday, October 22.
