Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Tyler Zaubi

Late Strike Earns Draw Against UNCG

Greensboro, N.C.- Trailing at the half for the first time this season, Wofford men's soccer rallied to find the equalizer with 75 seconds left for their best result against the Spartans since 2018.

A mistake by the Terriers in the 18th minute provided UNCG with the opening strike of the match. The concession was only the second goal scored against Wofford in the first half of matches this season.

A brilliant piece of goalkeeping from senior Cameron Victor in the 32nd minute prevented the Spartans from doubling their lead.

Coming out of the intermission, Wofford found a renewed aggression and in the first 20 minutes of the half tallied three shots and a corner that, while unable to produce a goal, set the stage for what to expect from the Terrier attack.

Threatening again in the 76th minute, junior Magnus Kjoller nearly found the equalizer save for a deflection that led to three consecutive corners for Wofford where, while unsuccessful once again in knotting the match, continued to press the Spartan defense and continued to build on earlier chances.

The mounting number of opportunities culminated in the Terriers' final attacking sequence of the night beginning with another deflected shot, this time off the foot of freshman Fabian Menendez, to give Wofford their fifth corner of the half. After successfully defending the original corner, a heavy clearance by UNCG gave sophomore Jakob Andersson the opportunity to drive the ball into the penalty box and flip the ball up to a waiting Nikolai Rojel who headed the ball into the bottom left corner of the net to tie the match and ensure the Terriers walk off the pitch with another point earned.

The goal was Rojel's ninth of the season, tying his goal count last season, and brings him to 18 goals scored in his career- one away from tying Connor Davis and Wilson Hood for fourth in career goals since moving to D-I. His next goal would also make him the first Terrier to score ten goals in a season since Matthew Aurednik in 2014.

The men are not in action again until Saturday, October 21, when the continue their Southern Conference schedule by playing host to the VMI Keydets. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 PM on ESPN+.
