PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas – The Wofford men's golf team put forth a solid 6-under par 858 effort over three days at the White Sands Bahamas Invitational, but it was only enough for ninth place in the event. At the Ocean Club – Ocean Course, a par-72, 7,159-yard course, freshman
Charles Warren led the Terriers with a career-best 213, placing 22
nd.
The Terriers tallied a 286 in round one before posting a 289 in the second round. A final-round 283 would secure a total of 858 at 6-under par. But it was only good enough for ninth in the 10-team field, as eight of the squads totaled scores in the double-digits under par. With 171 total pars, Wofford tied with Southern Illinois for the most in the event, but the Terriers had the second-fewest birdies with 50.
Santa Clara, the event's host team, won the tournament with a 45-under 819 score. The Broncos were four strokes ahead of North Texas, 41-under in second place.
Terrier freshman
Charles Warren notched his best outing yet, shooting 71 in all three rounds for a 3-under 213 score. It was his career-best score and first time finishing under par, tying for 22
nd in the 56-player field. With 38 pars, Warren owned the third most in the event.
Georgia State's Gareth Steyn won low medalist honors with a 15-under 201 score. The individual portion came down to the wire, as Steyn won by just a single stroke, staving off the comeback attempt of Connor Reis of St. Mary's, who posted a 10-under third round to finish 14-under.
Ben Jordan was even par at 216 after carding 72-70-74. He finished tied for 27
th. Jordan did notch an eagle in the event, one of 15 golfers to do so.
Harry Jones and
Glover Amick finished within a stroke of one another. Jones was 45
th with a 218 score after carding 71-77-70. Amick carded 72-75-72 en route to a 219 in 46
th.
Matthew Larkin rounds out the Terrier lineup in a tie for 49
th with a 221 score. Though scoring 78 in round one, Larkin rebounded with a 73 and 70 in the final two rounds.
This concludes the fall slate for Wofford. The Terriers will return to action in the spring of 2024 for the second half of the season.
