Murfreesboro, TN- Wofford men's basketball overcame a nine-point second half deficit to first force overtime and then overwhelm the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders in a 74-64 win.
The Terriers found themselves in the comeback position following a 23-14 Blue Raider run in the middle of the second half to lead 58-49 with 6:46 remaining. What ensued was a familiar sight for Wofford- junior
Dillon Bailey turning up his scoring production. The Bentonville, Arkansas product scored six of his game high 18 in the closing stretch highlighted by a dramatic sequence in which Bailey drew a foul with 29 seconds remaining and down by two, missed the front end of the one-and-one, got the ball back on an MTSU traveling violation during the rebound, and then tied the game with 22 seconds left after being knocked to the court on his shot attempt.
Once in overtime, Bailey handed the reins to junior
Corey Tripp, who single handedly outscored Middle Tennessee State with six points and a rebound- a rebound that gave the junior his first career double-double and finished his night flirting with a triple-double with 17 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists.
The lack of Blue Raider offensive production was due in large part to a suffocating Terrier defense that forced two shot clock violations in the first three MTSU possessions and held MTSU to 1-for-7 from the floor. When MTSU could get shots off, they went right to the hands of junior
Kyler Filewich who posted three rebounds in the extra period to notch his second double-double in three games.
Wofford enters the final week of an eight-game road trip when the team faces Gardner-Webb on Wednesday, December 6- a Gardner-Webb team the Terriers have not lost to as a division one institution. Tip off from Paul Porter Arena is set for 7:00 PM and will be streamed on ESPN+.
