Football Holds Situational Practice

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College football team held a situational practice on Saturday morning at Gibbs Stadium. Working for almost two hours, the team ran nearly 70 plays, all of which were scripted.

"I really liked how our defense was flying around out there and our defensive line has a chance to be really good," said head coach Shawn Watson. "Because of how they are playing it helps the back end and linebackers. It is typical in football that your offense is always behind your defense and you have to catch up. That is time on task and reps. The main thing we are going to look at when watching film is if the quarterback managed the situation correctly with his decision making. We also played a number of different receivers just to see what we have, especially the younger guys who have not had a chance to take reps with the ones. I think some of those guys are going to help us."

During a seven-on-seven period to begin practice, touchdowns were caught by Alec Holt, Tyler Parker and Bryson Dickerson, while the defense came up with two pass break-ups. After a special teams segment working on kickoff return, the first team offense and first team defense worked against each other. At quarterback, Bryce Corriston worked with the first team and Pauly Seeley was under center with the second team.

On the final series, Amir Annoor intercepted Bryce Corriston on a deep pass to end the practice. During the course of practice, the kickers made six-of-eight field goals, including a long of 45-yards by Bridger Jones.

After an off day on Sunday, the Terriers will continue preparations for the season opener with an 8:30 a.m. practice on Monday.
