Late Foul Call Forces 2-2 Draw with Gardner-Webb

Spartanburg, S.C.- Wofford women's soccer drew 2-2 against Gardner-Webb on Sunday, September 10, in a match that was heavily dominated by the Terriers for 80 minutes.

From the opening whistle, the Wofford attack put pressure on the Gardner-Webb defense, registering two shots on goal in the first ten minutes that, while unable to score, set the tone of the match. Wofford would get three more shots off and a corner kick before finally breaking through and scoring the first goal of the match in the 28th minute off the foot of Megan Childress for her second goal of the season and a 1-0 Terrier lead the team would carry into the half.

Senior Goalkeeper Caroline Doss converted her only save opportunity in the first half and in doing so took sole possession of the seventh place on the all-time saves list with her 151st save.
The Wofford attack put the Gardner-Webb goalkeeper under similar pressure in the second half, sending three more shots her way in the first five minutes of action. Senior captain Haley McCaffrey then put some padding on the Terrier lead in the 56th minute, rifling a shot off the top crossbar that deflected straight down into the goal for her first goal of the season and the 2-0 Wofford lead.

The Terriers continued their barrage of offense until the 81st minute when Gardner-Webb's Abby Clark found space in the Runnin' Bulldog counterattack to bring her team to within a goal and netted her first goal of the season.
A foul against Wofford's Lundyn Ladner in the 85th minute gave Gardner-Webb its last scoring opportunity in the form of a penalty kick. Team co-leader in goals, Megan Gettys, stepped up to take the shot for the Runnin' Bulldogs and buried the shot to draw the game even at two.

Sophomore Ellie Gower and junior Caileen Almeida each had opportunities to tally the go-ahead goal in the 89th and 90th minutes respectively but neither could find space past the keeper and the Terriers moved to 1-5-2 on the season with one more match remaining in the non-conference schedule.

Wofford is off until Friday, September 15, when they face the Radford Highlanders here in Spartanburg at 6 PM on ESPN+.
