Late Heroics Give Wofford 1-1 Draw Against Charleston Southern

Spartanburg, S.C.- Wofford women's soccer needed nearly all ninety minutes of Friday, September 8's, match against Charleston Southern, but the Terriers walked off the pitch with a result and a 1-1 draw.

Sophomore Ines Obradovac scored her first goal as a Terrier in the 89th minute on a bicycle kick off a header from fellow sophomore Sydney Soehn in the box that found its way past the Buccaneer keeper and into the back of the net that all but ensured the Terriers would earn a result.

For her part in the goal, Soehn tallied her first assist as a Wofford Terrier and played 55 minutes as a starter after missing the previous three matches due to injury.

The Terrier goal was the culmination of opportunities that came early and often. Junior Megan Childress found enough space to put a shot on goal in the 3rd minute that found the Buccaneer goalkeeper.
Wofford weathered consecutive corners conceded in the 20th minute to avoid giving up the first strike of the match and countered with a corner of their own in the 23rd minute that ultimately did not result in a goal either.

Neither team would threaten again until the closing stages of the first half. Charleston Southern's Dakota Feidler got a shot off in the 39th minute that was saved by Senior goalkeeper Caroline Doss and gave Doss her 150th career save- which ties her with former Wofford keeper Kimberly Cohn for seventh on the all-time saves list.

Wofford successfully defended a corner in the 56th minute but could not keep the Buccaneers out of the net on the follow up attack and Jessica Boyle scored for Charleston Southern and put CSU up 1-0 at the 56:07 mark.
Shots by Megan Childress in the 58th minute and freshman Katherine Elliott challenged for the title of equalizer but were both saved by Charleston Southern to preserve their lead. Then within the final 15 minutes of the match the Terriers had two corner kick opportunities to draw even though the team was unable to convert, and another shot from Sydney Soehn hit off the top of the goal.

At the 88:06 mark, Wofford was finally able to break through and find the equalizing goal off the foot of Ines Obradovac. Charleston Southern was unable to mount any counterattack in the remaining 114 seconds and the Terriers moved to 1-5-1 on the season.

Up next for Wofford is a short turnaround and play again on Sunday, September 10, against Gardner-Webb in the third match of a four-match home stand and the second consecutive against Big South competition. The Terriers have never lost to the Runnin' Bulldogs and are 5-0-1 all time. Kickoff is at 5 PM and can be seen on ESPN+.
