SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The 2024-25 men's basketball preseason honors were announced on Wednesday, with Wofford's
Corey Tripp and
Kyler Filewich both selected to the Preseason All-SoCon Team. The Terriers were also selected to finish fourth in the conference.
Â
Corey Tripp picks up the preseason honor after an All-SoCon Second Team and NABC All-District Team selection last season. The senior guard led the team in scoring with 500 points (15.6 ppg), which ranked eighth in the conference. Tripp finished the year top ten in the Southern Conference in assist/turnover ratio (1.61), assists (108), assists per game (3.4), field goal percentage (42.9) and field goals (192). He scored a career-high 28 points and grabbed seven rebounds in an overtime win against VMI last season.
Â
"Like all the guys in our program, Corey has worked extremely hard this offseason," said head coach
Dwight Perry. "We identified areas of improvement for his game this summer, and he has attacked them head on. Corey is really excited about the upcoming season and is looking to put his best foot forward."
Â
Kyler Filewich, a senior center out of Winnipeg, Manitoba, started in all 32 games for the Terriers last season, leading the team with 282 rebounds (8.8 rpg), good for 50
th in the nation and fifth in the conference. Filewich pulled down an average of 3.19 offensive rebounds per contest a year ago, which ranked 34
th in the nation and first in the SoCon. He also finished top ten in the conference in assist/turnover ratio (2.12), assists (108), assists per game (3.4) and double-doubles (eight). The big man grabbed a career-best 21 rebounds in the victory over Southern Wesleyan last year, the most rebounds by a Terrier since the 2001-02 season.
Â
"No one has higher expectations for Kyler than himself," said Perry. "He has done a great job at continuing to get his body in great shape so that not only can he play at a high level at the beginning of the game, but also finish games at that same level. We are looking forward to Kyler taking a big jump in his game this year."
Â
The Terriers will open the 2024-25 season at Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium against Erskine College on November 4. SoCon play begins on New Year's Day as the team will welcome UNCG to Spartanburg.
