GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Wofford men's soccer team (5-5-2, 1-2-0) fell 2-0 to the Furman Paladins (7-3-2, 2-1-0) on Tuesday night at Stone Stadium in Greenville, South Carolina.
The first half was a defensive, physical affair early, having seven combined fouls in the first 15 minutes of play. The match would go into the break tied 0-0.
The second half was marked by a Furman uptick in offensive pressure, taking 10 shots in the second half to Wofford's two. In the 52nd minute, Furman would break through the tough Wofford defense with a goal off a corner kick for a 1-0 lead. The Wofford offense would try to respond, taking two shots in the second half, but the equalizer could not be found. Furman would add to the lead with a penalty kick goal in the 85th minute, which sealed the 2-0 loss.
The rivalry game had its fair share of fouls and cards, with 34 combined fouls in the game as well as seven yellow cards issued. Wofford will be back in action on Saturday, October 26, at Mercer. Kick-off for the match will be at 7 pm.
