Men’s Tennis Earns 6-1 Win Over Limestone

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – On a sunny but windy Tuesday afternoon, the Wofford College men's tennis team earned a 6-1 win over Limestone at the Reeves Tennis Center. The Terriers began the match by winning the doubles point. In singles, Wofford was able to win five of the six matches as three were decided in three sets.
 
Doubles began with the #3 pairing of Ashe Ray and Ian Rasheed taking a 2-1 lead and then winning the next four games for a 6-1 win. At the #2 position, Max Graham and Jack Deveney were up 3-2 before winning the final three games for a 6-2 win that clinched the doubles point for the Terriers. The third match was unfinished with Robbie Young and Will Fullett leading 5-3 at #1 doubles.
 
In singles, Jack Deveney was down 2-3 in the first set at the #5 position but came back for a 6-4 win and then had a 6-0 win in the second set to win the match. At #2 singles, Ashe Ray never trailed in a 6-1, 6-2 victory. At #6 singles, Alex Horn dropped the first set 4-6, but rallied 6-0 and 6-1 for the match win that clinched the day for the Terriers.
 
At #4 singles, Robbie Young won the first set 6-0 but lost the second set 3-6. He claimed a win with a dominant 6-1 win in the third set. At #3 singles, Will Fullett won the first set 7-6 in a tiebreaker (7-5) and the Saints won the second set 7-6 in a tiebreaker (8-6). The third set was won 10-5 in a tiebreaker by the Saints.  
 
In the final match to be decided, Max Graham lost the first set 3-6 at the #1 position and won the second set 6-3. In the third set, the Saints were up 5-1 before Graham rallied to take six straight games for a 7-6 win.
 
"Locked in is the best way to describe our team's effort today," said head coach Rod Ray. "Limestone gave us some bumps, but we refused to let go."
 
Wofford (3-3) will be back in action on Thursday, February 22, at Clemson. The Saints are now 1-2 overall.
