Men’s Basketball Falters in Second Half

Chattanooga, TN – Wofford men's basketball went into the half only down one to Chattanooga, but a 10-0 Mocs run out the break proved too much to overcome for the Terriers and dropped the road contest 81-65.

The Terriers' 15-point second half deficit is only the fourth time Wofford has been outscored by 10+ in the closing frame this season (first since being outscored 41-29 by UNCG on January 20, 2024) and still hold a point differential of +83 across the season in the second half.

Chattanooga connected on 16-of-30 attempts in the half to shoot 53.3%, breaking a string of five consecutive games in which Wofford's opponent failed to shoot even 40% in the second half while Wofford's 35.7% shooting marks only the second time this season the Terriers have failed to shoot 40% in the field in consecutive second halves this season (the last coming Nov. 14 @ 19, 2023 against Tennessee and Virginia Tech).

Junior Dillon Bailey however held true to his script, shooting 4-for-7 in the second half and scoring all 10 of his points- his tenth double digit scoring second half this season.

Although it was junior Corey Tripp pacing the Terriers in scoring behind a career-high six three-pointers and 21 points- his second 20 piece of the month (the other coming on Feb. 3 against Western Carolina). This contest is the second time this season Tripp has made multiple three-pointers and shot at least 50% from beyond the arc (the other coming on Jan. 20 against UNCG in which he shot 3-for-6).

With losses by both Western Carolina and Furman, Wofford maintains its position in the standings at tied for fifth and would remain the sixth seed if the SoCon tournament started tomorrow (would play the third seed Chattanooga in the quarterfinals). The Terriers next matchup is on the road against Furman, looking to sweep the regular season series for the first time since the 2020-21 season. The matchup from Timmons Arena is scheduled for 2 PM on ESPN+.
