Spartanburg, SC – Junior
Corey Tripp first hit the game-tying bucket with 39 seconds and then put the Terriers ahead for good in overtime as Wofford men's basketball pulled out the 88-86 win over the Western Carolina Catamounts.
The junior scored 13 of Wofford's final 19 points between the end of the second half and overtime to finish with 27 points on 13-for-17 shooting- the most field goals by a Terrier since Fletcher Magee who also made 13 against Samford on March 2, 2019.
Neither team found any semblance of separation as the largest lead by either team was a seven-point Western Carolina lead with five minutes remaining in the first half that preceded a 15-8 Wofford run that took the game to halftime tied at 39. Out of the break Wofford put together its largest lead- a six-point lead (54-48 at the 13:39 mark) before immediately surrendering an 8-2 Catamount run to hit the under 12 media timeout again tied- this time at 56.
Over the closing 11:41 of the game, the lead changed hands four times and was tied another four times to equal a game that had 14 lead changes and 12 ties.
Three overtimes wins match the 2003-04 team for the most in a single season in program history, and four overtime games played tied with the 2010-11 team for the most overtime games played in a single season in program history.
Wofford's win moved the team to 6-4 in the SoCon and currently sits in fifth place with the ability to move into fourth place with a Furman loss to UNCG on Sunday, February 4, 2024. The Terriers are on the road for their next contest, traveling to ETSU on Wednesday, February 7, and then returning home for The Citadel on Saturday, February 10. Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+.
