SPARTANBURG, S.C. – On Friday afternoon, the Wofford College men's tennis team earned a 4-0 win over Converse at the Reeves Tennis Center. The Terriers won the doubles point and took three singles matches to clinch the win.
Max Graham and
Jack Deveney started doubles with a 6-2 win at the #3 position.
Ashe Ray and
Ian Rasheed added a 6-3 win at the #2 position to clinch the point for the Terriers.
In singles,
Will Fullett won the first set at the #3 position 6-0 and he won by retirement.
Alex Horn then earned a 6-1, 6-2 win at the #6 position. Freshman
Jack Deveney won the first set in a tiebreaker and claimed a 6-2 win in the second set that secured the win for Wofford.
Three matches were unfinished, as
Max Graham was up in the third set at #1 singles.
Ashe Ray won the first set and was up in the second set at #2 singles.
Robbie Young won the first set and was tied in the second set at #4 singles.
"We attacked in doubles and kept the momentum rolling to win at home," said head coach
Rod Ray. "I have a lot of respect and admiration for our players."
Wofford (1-3) will remain at home with a match on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. against Emmanuel. The match was an exhibition for the Valkyries.
