SPARTANBURG, S.C. – On Monday afternoon, the Wofford College women's lacrosse team was defeated 23-4 by Clemson at Gibbs Stadium. With the Tigers leading 6-3 after the first quarter, they did not allow the Terriers to score in the second or third quarters on the way to the win.
Wofford (2-3) was led by
Emma Stalteri with all four goals.
Bria Foley led the team with four draw controls, while
Lily Barger picked up three ground balls. Barger and
Ainsleigh Mancini each had two caused turnovers.
The Tigers are 6-2 on the season and ranked #20 in the nation. They were led by Natalie Shurtleff with two goals and three assists for five points. Regan Byrne and Claire Bockstie each had four goals.
After Clemson scored the first two goals in the game,
Emma Stalteri got the Terriers on the board with a free position goal. The Tigers built a 5-1 lead before Stalteri added two more goals in the last four minutes of the first quarter. At the end of the first quarter, the Tigers had a 6-3 lead.
The second and third quarters belong to Clemson, as they scored 14 straight goals for a 20-3 lead after the third. During the two quarters, Wofford was held to seven shots. In the fourth quarter, Clemson scored the first three goals before
Emma Stalteri had a free position shot with 1:23 remaining in the game to make the final margin 23-4.
Wofford will be back in action on Thursday, March 14, when the Terriers host Cincinnati at 4:00 p.m.
