Macon, GA – Four runs in the fourth and sixth innings proved too much to overcome in Wofford softball's 10-2 loss at Mercer on Saturday, March 23.
The loss drops Wofford to 0-1 in both the Southern Conference and in games outside the state of South Carolina. However, freshman
Kaytlin Greenwood extended her on base streak to ten games after tallying the first Terrier hit of the afternoon in the fifth inning. She becomes the second Terrier to reach base in ten or more straight games this season (
Hope Ingle reached in 17 consecutive games from Feb. 9, 2024-Mar. 16, 2024).
Greenwood would end up scoring on a Mercer error for ninth run scored of the season, which moves her into second on the team behind
Desirae Devine's 12 runs scored.
Three batters later
Abbi Campbell knocked in
Megan Towery to notch her fourth RBI of the season and conclude scoring for Wofford.
Margaret Axelson started her fifth game in the circle this season and tied her season high in both runs and earned runs allowed (four runs allowed, three of which were earned) across 3.1 innings pitched. Her season ERA remains under two, making her the only Terrier with a sub-2.00 ERA after
Tayven Stephenson let up six earned runs in the final 2.1 innings of play. Her ERA now sits at 2.63 and the six runs charged against her represent the most allowed by a Terrier in a game this season.
Wofford finishes up its series with Mercer with a doubleheader beginning at 1 PM on Sunday, March 24. Neither game will be streamed tomorrow, and fans are encouraged to keep up with live stats on the Wofford athletics website or on social media.
