JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – On Sunday afternoon, the Wofford College men's tennis team was defeated 5-2 by East Tennessee State at the Dave Mullins Tennis Complex. The Bucs won the doubles point and took four of the six singles matches for the SoCon win.
Wofford started doubles with a 6-3 win by
Ashe Ray and
Ian Rasheed at the #3 position. The Bucs picked up a 6-4 win at the #2 position to even the point. At #1 doubles,
Will Fullett and
Robbie Young were tied at 6-6 before falling 7-4 in the tiebreaker with the Bucs earning the doubles point.
The Bucs started singles by winning at the #3 and #1 positions in straight sets. At #2 singles,
Robbie Young earned a 6-4, 6-2 win which was followed by a 7-5, 6-4 win at the #5 position by
Alex Horn. With the Bucs leading the overall match 3-2, they were able to clinch with a straight-set win at the #4 position. In the final match at #6 singles,
Ian Rasheed took his match to three sets but was defeated.
Wofford (7-8, 2-2) will host their final home match of the season on Friday, March 29 against Chattanooga. The team's three seniors will be honored prior to the match. ETSU is now 5-9 overall and 2-0 in SoCon play.
