BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – On Tuesday afternoon, the Wofford College men's tennis team was defeated 5-2 by Gardner-Webb at the Webb Tennis Complex. The Runnin' Bulldogs earned the doubles point and then took four of the six singles matches in the win.
In doubles, Gardner-Webb had a pair of 6-2 wins at the #1 and #3 positions to claim the point. The #2 doubles match was unfinished.
Gardner-Webb took singles matches at the #1, #2, #3, and #6 positions in straight sets, which secured the victory. At #5 singles,
Jack Deveney won the first set 7-6 in a tiebreaker and lost the second set. In the overall tiebreaker, Deveney earned a 10-6 win.
Robbie Young lost his first set at the #4 position, but answered with a 6-4 win in the second set. In the tiebreaker, he picked up a 10-6 win to take the match.
Wofford (6-6, 1-0) will return home on Saturday, March 9, against Elon for the final non-conference match of the season. Gardner-Webb is now 12-2 overall.
