Women’s Lacrosse Scores Late to Win 16-15 Over Campbell

SPARTANBURG, S.C. –  With a goal in the final 90 seconds of the game, the Wofford women's lacrosse team earned a 16-15 win over Campbell at Gibbs Stadium on Thursday afternoon. The Camels had a 7-6 lead at the half, but neither team had more than a two-goal advantage in the game. Carlie Cutinella scored the game-winner for the Terriers with 1:20 remaining on the clock.   
 
Wofford (2-2) was led by Addison Witkowski with five goals, while Bria Foley had one goal and five assists for a team-high six points. Carlie Cutinella and Emma Stalteri each added three goals. Ella Smithers had nine saves in goal, while the Wofford defense caused 11 turnovers. Lily Barger had a team-high four ground balls and Vivian Chiomento set a school record with ten draw controls.
 
The Camels are now 2-4 on the season and were led by Ally Heath with five goals and an assist for six points. Joslin Hanbury also had six points on three goals and three assists.  
 
After the Camels opened the scoring, the Terriers were able to take a 4-3 lead at the end of the first quarter after goals by Emma Stalteri and Carley Irvin. In the second quarter, the game was tied at 4, 5 and 6 before a goal with 1:57 left in the half gave the Camels a 7-6 advantage.
 
Campbell also opened the second half with a goal, giving them their largest lead of the game at 8-6. Back-to-back goals from Emma Stalteri and Olivia Graebner tied the game at 8-8 with 9:23 on the clock in the third quarter. It remained a one-goal game with ties at 9, 10 and 11 in the quarter.
 
In the final quarter, Bria Foley scored an unassisted goal to give Wofford a 12-11 lead. After a goal by the Camels tied the game at 12, the Terriers had goals from Addison Witkowski and Carlie Cutinella for a 14-12 advantage, the largest of the day for the Terriers. The Camels responded with back-to-back goals to tie the game at 14 with 6:12 left in the game. Wofford had a goal by Ainsley Towle, but Campbell answered and the game was tied at 15 with 3:44 remaining. A Campbell penalty with 2:18 remaining set the stage for the game-winner by Carlie Cutinella with 1:20 left on the clock. Campbell got the ensuing draw control and a shot with 43 seconds left was saved by Ella Smithers to secure the win.
 
Wofford will be back in action on Monday, March 11, when the Terriers host #20 Clemson at 4:00 p.m.
