Asheville, NC – In the Quarterfinals of the Southern Conference Tourney, Wofford men's basketball was unable to solve the Chattanooga Mocs in a 57-75 defeat.
The Terriers kept the game within five points for the opening eight minutes and forty-two seconds of action, but after tying the game at 23 conceded the game for good while keeping the score close throughout the first half by staving off Chattanooga runs that resulted in eight-point leads. Juniors
Corey Tripp and
Kyler Filewich stuck to the script that made them a successful pair in the regular season- with Tripp compiling nine points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals and for Filewich a stat line of four points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Wofford's last stand came five minutes and fifty-seven seconds into the second half when Tripp converted his first of two three-pointers on the night to halve the Mocs lead to three and then forced the turnover on the defensive half to give Wofford a chance to tie the contest. However, a missed layup by the Terriers on that possession followed by a Chattanooga three-pointer preceded a 12-5 run over the next 4:24 to sit the Mocs lead at 13 at which point the Terriers were only able to convert three of their final 16 field goal attempts spanning eight minutes and thirty-three seconds that sealed the loss.
Tripp did end the contest with 15 points and finished his season with an even 500 points. With eight rebounds in the contest,
Kyler Filewich ended the season second on the single season rebound list this season- passing Tim Johnson's 2009-10 season and Lee Skinner during the contest and finishing only six rebounds behind Tim Johnson's 2010-11 season.
And with four assists, Filewich tied Tripp for the team lead, making Filewich the first to lead the team in both assists and rebounds since Karl Cochran in 2014-15. For Tripp's part, he became the first Terrier to lead the team in scoring and assists since Storm Murphy in 2020-21.
Looking forward to next season, Wofford does not graduate a single player currently on the roster (one of four teams in the nation with this distinction). Make sure to follow Wofford men's basketball on social media to stay current on the Terriers during the offseason.
