BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – On Saturday afternoon, Wofford College men's tennis team was defeated 6-1 by Samford at the Samford Tennis Center. The Bulldogs won the doubles point and then took five of the six singles matches for the win.
During doubles play, the Bulldogs had wins at the #2 and #3 positions which clinched the point. The #1 doubles also went to Samford by a 6-4 score.
The Bulldogs opened singles play with straight set wins at the #6, #2 and #1 positions which secured the overall match win for Samford. They added wins at the #5 and #3 spots. At #4 singles,
Jack Deveney lost the first set 4-6, but won the second set 6-4. He claimed the tiebreaker 14-12 to give the Terriers a point.
Wofford (7-10, 2-4) will play at Furman on April 10 to conclude the regular season. Samford is now 12-7 overall and 5-1 in SoCon play.
