AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Wofford men's golf team wrapped up play in the two-day Augusta Haskins Award Invitational presented by Valspar Sunday afternoon, tying for 10
th place with a score of 881 at the par-72, 7,086-yard Forest Hills Golf Club. Augusta natives
Harry Jones and
Jay Beach led the way for Wofford in 30
th and 37
th, respectively.
Wofford opened play with a 300 before tallying a 296 in round two later that day. A 3-under 285 in the final round helped Wofford move up one spot into a tie with Mississippi State for 10
th place in the 15-team field. The Terriers totaled a score of 881 at 17-over.
North Carolina won the event by six strokes over second-place Texas in a stacked field. The Tar Heels finished at 21-under par.
Wofford was led by a pair of Augusta natives.
Harry Jones paced the Terriers in his hometown with a 2-over 218. He carded round of 76 and 72 on day one before finishing strong with a 70 on day two.
Jay Beach tied for 37
th with a 3-over 219, one stroke behind Jones. Beach posted rounds of 74 and 76 on day one before a career-low 69 in the final round to jump 10 spots on the leaderboard.
Mercer's Tobias Jonsson claimed low medalist honors by one stroke in the 78-player field with a 9-under 207.
Cedric Otten placed in a tie for 52
nd with an 8-over 224 after carding rounds of 75-73-76.
Matthew Larkin tied for 56
th with a 10-over score of 226. Despite an opening 78, Larkin bounced back to shot 75 and 73 in the following two rounds.
Davis Neal rounds out the Wofford lineup in a tie for 61
st with rounds of 75-79-73 to tally a 227 score at 11-over.
Wofford returns to the course for its penultimate competition of the season by hosting its annual Wofford Intercollegiate. The event is shifting locations this season as it will be held at the Catawba Country Club in Hickory, North Carolina, on April 15 and 16. The 2024 Southern Conference Championship will follow a week later.
