SPARTANBURG, S.C. – With less than two weeks remaining before the season opener, the Wofford College football team held their second scrimmage on Saturday morning at Gibbs Stadium. The team was on the field for over two hours as they ran nearly 80 plays.
"It was all the situations we have been working on in practice with down and distance," said head coach
Shawn Watson. "We also did some red zone seven-on-seven, along with an inside drill to focus on the base run game. We are in great health right now so we are just trying to keep everyone progressing forward and being smart with the guys that have proven themselves. At this point we are ahead of where I thought we would be in terms of the volume we have put in, but we have to clean up the details each day."
The practice began with a walk-through and a short individual position group period. The first situation for the team was first and ten, playing out second down.
Isaiah Scott had a 30-yard catch from
Bryce Corriston and Scott added a first down catch from
Amari Odom.
Samuel Cornett had a first down reception from Pauly Seeley. A special teams segment followed with a focus on kickoff return.
During the seven-on-seven period,
Maximus Pulley and
Jalen Marshall each had interceptions and
Tyler Parker had an 11-yard touchdown reception. Moving to second-and-long situations with third down being played out, the offense had a couple first downs but the defense was able to come up with multiple tackles for loss.
Working on third down situations,
Dylan Djete had a 30-yard catch from Pauly Seeley and
Kyle Watkins added a 30-yard reception from
Bryce Corriston. The next special teams segment was punt, as
Sam Spence,
Devery Cagle, and
Cavan Craig battle for the starting position.
In the two-minute drill,
Amari Odom was under center as
Ivory Aikens ran for a first down before
John Boyles had a sack. The drive ended with a 41-yard field goal by
